As consumers, we are inundated by mass production. Our households’ cycle through cheaply made products, often with built-in obsolescence or unfit for purpose, eventually thrown away without concern of the wasteful impact.

The Breaker Bay collection is an expression of beauty in materials and local craftsmanship, imbued with a Kaupapa of “sustainability through durability”. I have interpreted this purpose through my affinity with a rugged Wellington peninsula. Exploring the history and stories of how its people connect to the coastline.

“When searching for durability, go to where it is demanded”.

 The South coast of Wellington reveals itself in many ways, for me it provokes thoughts of how humans respond to its harsh nature. On this coast where elements collide, certain materials have been tried and proven.

 Testing confirmed material performance was critical. The strength and economy of steel paired with the natural ergonomics of timber, two basic materials blending utility and form into a satisfactory whole.

 Jarrah has a steeped history in New Zealand’s coastal environments, a prized timber. Finished in hardwax-oil, inviting a softness and warmth at the touch.

 316 Stainless steel’s performance in corrosive environments’ is unmatched. Manufactured in Wellington to industry strength and sanitary grades. The satin surface is anti-corrosive and easy to clean.
